Many of our Urban Carry Holster customers receive their holster, and when they go to holster their pistol, damn! their pistol will not seat into the holster and lock into the patented Urban Carry Holster LockLeather locking device. They follow the instructions, leaving their pistol in the holster, drawing and re-holstering the pistol often, placing their pistol in a plastic sandwich bag and holstering it with the bag which stretches out the holster's premium saddle leather ever so slightly.
Several days later, they try holstering their pistol again and seating the trigger guard into the LockLeather locking device, to no avail. What's going on here! Then they email us frustrated, telling us we sent them the wrong holster model, or the holster model listed for their pistol make and model on our website is wrong. Or, they go to our website's review section and give us a low Star rating, listing the above issue as the reason for the poor rating.
So, then we go about carefully giving them instruction on how to complete the initial setup and break-in period. Hence, the outcome of these contacts is the reason for this Centa1 Med Kits BLOG Article. We feel this one is so important, that we will reissue this BLOG Article several times over the next several months in an attempt to reach every Urban Carry LockLeather Holster owner out there. So, let's get started.
STEP #1:
Gather the tools and items you will need for the initial setup.
You will need your UCH LockLeather Holster, a Phillips Head screwdriver, ThreadLocker (Such as Loctite Brand), a paper towel for clean-up and of course, your unloaded (confirmed unloaded!) pistol.
STEP #2:
Turn your holster over so you are viewing the backside of the holster.
Locate the rubber grommet retention screw (Phillips Head) located between the two Rivets that secure the patented Urban Carry Holster LockLeather Locking Device. The retention screw provides more retention when you tighten the screw, and less retention when you loosen the screw.
STEP #3:
Loosen the retention screw by inserting the Phillips Head screwdriver into the screw head slot and turning it counterclockwise to loosen it.
Back it out almost all the way, then insert your Unloaded pistol into the holster and lock it in the patented LockLeather Locking Device.
STEP #4:
Draw your pistol out of the holster and locking mechanism several times. Adjust the rubber grommet retention screw for more or less retention until you are satisfied with the retention. Once you've found your "Sweet Spot," back the retention screw out one full turn.
STEP #5:
Leaving your unloaded pistol fully seated and locked in the holster, turn the holster over so you are viewing the outside of the holster. Locate the female portion of the rubber grommet retention screw. Take the ThreadLocker and carefully drop in two or three drops directly in the thread hole filling it.
Once filled, don't turn it over. Lay it flat on its backside on a hard surface and let the ThreadLocker work its way down into the threads of the screw and nut.
STEP #6:
After a few minutes, the ThreadLocker will have worked its way into the threads and will begin to solidify. Turn your holster over so you are viewing the backside of it and the retention screwhead. Now, slowly tighten the retention screw one full turn clockwise, so it is back at your "Sweet Spot" and covered in the ThreadLocker.
STEP #7:
Now, set the holster aside on its backside on a hard surface in a secure location with your unloaded pistol still in it. Leave it alone for 24-hours to allow the ThreadLocker to fully set up, and the pistol to begin forming and stretching the leather to a custom fit.
That's it! If you still want to use the plastic sandwich bag method for a week or so to further stretch out the leather, go ahead. But make sure you fully insert your pistol into the holster until you hear and feel it click into the patented LockLeather Locking Device.
Thanks again, be safe.
